Lexington Park resident Kelly Eugene McClure-Hewitt, 55, an assistant principal at Leonardtown High School, has been arrested and charged on multiple sex offenses following an investigation into allegations made by an 18-year-old, the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office announced on Wednesday, May 17.

In March, a joint investigation by the sheriff’s office and public schools system was launched when a teen came forward alleging a series of encounters with the administrator at the high school

According to the victim, during multiple visits to his office, McClure-Hewitt provided unsolicited gifts, discussed sexual preference, and made unwanted sexual contact with the teen.

Investigators noted that when the abuse began, McClure-Hewitt had no previous contact of any kind with the assistant principal.

McClure-Hewitt, who has been assistant principal since July 2016, was arrested and charged on an outstanding warrant for:

  • Third-degree sex offense;
  • Fourth-degree sex offense: sexual contact;
  • Second-degree assault.
